'Katie's Cup' Charity Tournament raises over £21,000
01 December 2016
Once again, an outstanding success – the Kingsfield charity day, “Katie’s Cup”, held on 20 August has raised more than £21,000.
The day would not be possible without the enormous help from those generous in donating both prizes and cash; in particular our good friend Stephen Gallacher who, again, provided us with some remarkable auction and raffle prizes.
Congratulations must go to the winning team, captained by Dave Hendry, who already have their eyes set on becoming the first back-to-back champions!
Our chosen charity for 2016 is Pancreatic Cancer Scotland. They are the only Scottish charity dedicated solely to improving the outcome for patients diagnosed as having cancer of the pancreas and associated tumours. For the past 40 years, pancreatic cancer has a survival rate of between 2-4%. Our donation will help them raise awareness of symptoms to help improve early diagnosis and treatment.
This year we also raised funds for a cause much closer to home. Tilly Simpson was five years old when diagnosed with a brain tumour. Some of the money raised at Katie’s Cup went towards helping Tilly's family with the huge costs for the treatment she was receiving in America. Sadly, Tilly lost her life after a courageous battle against the disease in October and all our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this time of year.
